I heard that Rep. Johansen just introduced an amendment to this years Darfur divestment bill adding that the state of AK should also divest from . . abortion. Apparently there are a few law makers (I heard Rep. Johnson suggest it in last years’ hearing) who think that abortion is a genocide and atrocity equal in magnitude to the rape, torture, and extermination taking place in Darfur. Shannyn do you know anything about this?

Shannyn, thank you so much for this piece. I’ve shot it out to everyone I could think of in the lower 48 as well as in AK. Palin’s statement was so offensive to those us who have worked so hard in many capacities on behalf of Darfur.

The broad has to go.

In 2002 we here in open minded and usually Democratic Maryland elected Mr. Robert Erlichas to be our first Republican governor since Spiro T. Agnew.

Agnew, as you may recall, subsequently became Nixon’s pick for Vice-President, and later resigned in disgrace from that office under federal charges of tax evasion and money laundering.

Let me tell you that two years into Erlich’s term it started to become increasingly obvious to almost everyone in Maryland that Mr. Erlich’s campaign promises to have a fair, honest and open administration were really just “smoke and mirrors” that hid his true political agenda.

Once in office, Mr. Erlich kept an “enemies list” and dispatched “hatchet men” to find and replace state department heads that were considered to be “not loyal” to either Mr. Erlich or his policies. His ‘enemies list’ included members of the press along with anyone else who publicaly expressed displeasure with his administration.

Sound familiar?

So when Mr. Erlich stood for election for a second term, we’d had enough of him by then. We turned him out of office and put a Democratic governor back in office.

So take heart.

It’s activists like you who will rally Alaskans to correct their mistake and limit the Palins to just a single term in office.

Very impressive scholarship and reporting, Shannyn! I learned a great deal from your post and hope you will get this analysis into the media news stream.

In many ways the easy work has been done. Efforts to defeat McCain/Palin may require more information of this type, now that Palin in particular has vindicated herself in the eyes of some. Anyone who gets her inspiration from a Starbucks cup and can’t even get THAT right is incapable of defending herself against such detailed narratives about her much-touted executive experience. Occupying a position is not the same as leadership.

Now, as attack dog she’ll find her true calling. Smear politics are easy. No thinking required. She’s perfect for the job.
