I submitted ‘letter to the editor’ of the ADN and didn’t get published AGAIN. Questioned how someone can be elected as governor, then ‘quit’ and is honored w/picnics and pictures of her on the front and back pages of the newspaper….two days in a row! Just amazing! In the private sector, if we quit, we move on quietly. Not Palin!!! In also indicated that I thought she’d go down in history as Alaska’s worst governor. Of course, they couldn’t print that!

From what you’ve described, I wish your letter had seen some ink.
I am very happy for Alaska right now but am still worried about everyone’s future with Mrs. Palin (private citizen) prowling the other 49. She may not get elected to higher office (may the gods help the world if she does) but she has the potential to cause a lot of damage by inciting the Real Haters of Real America.
For the good of the country, I hope that the GOP reclaims itself from the far right Palin-type faction that is causing so much disruption to thoughtful debate. Palin, Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck, to name only a few, are doing real damage to everything from health care to climate change to American’s respected position around the world. For the good of the country, we need to hear more from the Colon Powells, David Brooks and Susan Eisenhowers. This may seem like fighting words to most progressives but I really don’t mean them to be. I simply want to see integrity return to the discussion. And these people (even if you disagree with them) represent integrity; integrity that is sorely and frighteningly lacking in current political debate. Think about the people in Alaska that were elected to office that you disagreed with but that handled themselves in a respectful manner. We may still disagree with their positions but at least the discussion will be knowledge driven instead of the hate-filled-fearful rhetoric that we are currently reading, hearing and seeing.
I’m afraid it’s not enough that Mrs. Palin is out of Alaska…she needs to become irrelevant for the good of American politics.
