Congratulations, Sarah Palin! YOU WON!

While taking a “break” from right-wing radio world today, I relaxed in the arms of NPR. Ah, some real news relief…WHAT?
PolitiFacts announced Sarah Palin’s big win: BIGGEST LIE OF THE YEAR! My heartfelt congratulations to the FORMER governor, I know she worked very, very hard to win.  I’m just waiting for the “best work of fiction” nomination for Going Rogue.

Of all the falsehoods and distortions in the political discourse this year, one stood out from the rest.

“Death panels.”

The claim set political debate afire when it was made in August, raising issues from the role of government in health care to the bounds of acceptable political discussion. In a nod to the way technology has transformed politics, the statement wasn’t made in an interview or a television ad. Sarah Palin posted it on her Facebook page.

Her assertion — that the government would set up boards to determine whether seniors and the disabled were worthy of care — spread through newscasts, talk shows, blogs and town hall meetings. Opponents of health care legislation said it revealed the real goals of the Democratic proposals. Advocates for health reform said it showed the depths to which their opponents would sink. Still others scratched their heads and said, “Death panels? Really?”

The editors of PolitiFact.com, the fact-checking Web site of the St. Petersburg Times, have chosen it as our inaugural “Lie of the Year.”

Please read the reasons and runners up HERE.  Again, congratulations!

Responses

  1. I’m actually not surprised. She did kick off the whole “Soylent Green” paranoia of the teabaggers. It was the biggest political distraction I’ve ever seen.

  2. Those runners up were pretty stiff competition! She must be so proud!

  3. Wow, in one week we learn that she is a grifter, we see another episode of The Country’s Greatest Quitter, and she wins a big prize. This one may be bigger than a Nobel. After all, she earned her prize, she really really earned it.

Now, we may see her parlaying her skills, I think a TRIFECTA is happening with the Canadian hospital speech. The promised redirection of the cash stinks already. There will be grifter action, lies aplenty and another big quit. See what I mean, that’s what you call a Trifecta.

  4. And she did it all for Alaska!

    • AND the cute little special needs children. AND the troops!

  5. She must be so proud of herself for winning an award. I bet her family, friends and fans are so thrilled that she finally won something.

  6. Funny, when the concept of government “death panels” were first exposed/fabricated, I though to myself that death panels ALREADY exist.

If you’ve every been turned down for insurance for a pre-existing condition, or have had to wait months, or years before a settlement is reached, you’ve faced a death panel. But it’s a panel of insurance company execs and lawyers, influence only by their compassionless profit.

Even if it the lie of a government death panel were true, at least I know that votes and public opinion can influence them as well as money.

  7. Lol Aussie Blue Sky! Yep…everything she has done since she quit was to progress Alaasssska! She “wrote” a crappy book full of lies, threw just about everyone she could under the bus, and spread the best lie of the year via her FaceBook venue. All for the good of Alaska. I bet she and her parents are proud as punch.

  8. “It’s a major award!” (from a Christmas Story). And she won it, kudos Sarah!!

  9. Sarah makes me cringe every time I hear her speak. Her cult like followers scare the crap out of me. After everything she has done and all the inconsistencies, lies and insults they still adore her. That is frightening. When you have evangelical preachers hollering to their congregation to rise up and be martyrs for the cause and you have US Senators attending their gatherings, we need to really pay attention and not allow what they are planning. Sarah is right there with them.

  10. Death Panels, FEMA Camps, Birthers and liars oh my!
Death Panels, FEMA Camps, Birthers and liars oh my!
Death Panels, FEMA Camps, Birthers and liars oh my!

  11. What is sad is that there are probably at least a million people out there that still believe all of her lies.

Sarah is the queen of “truthiness”.

  12. I would like to nominate Bailin’ Palin for an additional award: “The Douchebag of the Year” award.

  13. I look forward to reading her Facebook Response – LOL

  14. She must be proud, she even went out and bought an Cadillac Escalade to celebrate, she’s so frugal you know..marked out McCains name on the visor so she wouldn’t have to spend her money on a new one.

  15. A richly deserved honor. Should we look for a twitter or FB posting in regards to this award too, also? We know she likes trumpeting her accomplishments!

  16. I know this woman has blind fans, and nothing, no-how, will ever change their minds about her. However, I am so thankful for the many bloggers who are keeping the real story about Palin out there. Some of her fans, will decide to do some research, finding more information about her and become thoroughly disgusted, like us. I’m glad the book tour is over. She’ll probably be on radio shows, like Limbaugh’s, but I seriously doubt that Fox will have her again. She proved to be so lame, even for their criteria.

  17. Sarah won an award that didn’t involve fancy pageant walking, a swim suit or makeup. All it took was a pair of jammies and a Blackberry. Lazy stupid people unite, there’s hope for obscurity.

  18. HA! In S’error’s dopey world being # 1 is much better than being # 2 as Vice President.

  19. That’s ONE title she CAN’T QUIT!

On another note….has anyone seen the picture of Rupaul as “Sarah Palin” in a look alike book cover titled “Going Vogue”???

    It’s posted on Huffington Post!

Leave it to a Flawless Drag Queen to bring it!!!

  20. That’s pretty impressive. And from a right leaning site at that. She is sure the role model we want for our young women, eh? I wonder how she will top that for 2010.

  21. I am so proud of Sarah. She deserves an award. So i am sending her one. Hey Sarah your award “IS IN THE MAIL” 😉

  22. tee…hee…… back from Hiwarrior because there were too many Hiwarriorians ?? OR, was the press all over your ass like a cheap suit (unless mcsame and his death panels bought it for you) to say something else moronic..??

What a great honor for sister.. can’t think of anyone more deserving of a slap across the face with a 2 x 6 ….

  23. Palin wins!

This prestigious award only underscores the whole point of “Going rogue”: when she’s allowed to plug-in her common sense conservative values, without any elite interference, overwhelming victory is the only conceivable outcome.

God leaves the doors ajar-she plows right through!

  24. she should be in jail…anybody else would be, for the devastation her lies have created. she’s a criminal in every sense of the word, and she should be punished as such…at the very least, she should be examined by a ‘panel’ of mental health professionals in a 72 hour stay! …she’s very dangerous to our country. imo

  25. One of the posters on Margaret & Helen posted this 😀

Top 10 uses for “Going Rogue”

  26. Palin went from MILF to DIAF really fast.

  27. Does Sarah Palin have Münchhausen’s Syndrome?

Vote here if you wish 🙂

  28. Just like to add. I’m sure she will say it’s all the “Got shas media” But PolitiFact won the Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for National Reporting for coverage of the 2008 election. Not what I’d call a got shas bunch.

  29. Congratulations Sarah! An award, and one that I will defend your winning to the bitter end. I mean it, really. People are so mean to you, but boy this will show them that you can legitimately win an award. I’ll just bet Katie Couric is so jealous of you now.

Thanks Poolman for the top 10, my personal favorite is number uno, “It’s true! Nothing like taking the most inorganic substance known to man — the tiny fundamentalist Republican mind — and turning it back to nature.”

  30. Sarah Palin says in her memoir “Going Rogue” that threats were made against her daughters in Juneau schools. But a former school district official, Juneau police and the Alaska State Troopers say that’s news to them.

  31. I’m sure all red-blooded Alaskans are now even prouder of Your Gal. This honor will hang around SP like an albatross, rotting slowly on a warm day.

The best definition of La Palin I’ve read lately is “Sarah Palin: Catnip for Idiots”.

    Have a great holiday everyone.

  32. Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but has the ADN explained why they have turned off comments on Palin articles? I find it amusing/frustrating that they have a political blog area, ” where you can comment on the goings-on”, but YOU CAN’T.

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

  33. What is interesting is she was right. They may not have been called “death panels” but her is what is the truth. “Senator Jim DeMint spotted one shocking revelation regarding the section in the bill describing the Independent Medicare Advisory Board (now called the Independent Payment Advisory Board), which is a panel of bureaucrats charged with cutting health care costs on the backs of patients – also known as rationing.” Sounds like a death panel to me. It is very scarey.

  34. What’s really funny is that she also stole the idea from someone else. She gets the star for popularizing the biggest lie, through plagiarism.
