Viagra Shortage in Wasilla…

This week, an entire pack of wolves was slaughtered from a helicopter.  At least two of the shot wolves were collared for research purposes.  This is the legacy of the Crazy Woman from Wasilla.  Sarah Palin loaded the Alaska Board of Game with science-denying bastards that want to kill every predator known to moose and caribou.

Wolves and bears are being mowed down in record numbers despite recent surveys indicating that wolf populations were at 17-year lows in the area of this week’s merciless and immoral killing.  By killing federally-collared wolves, Palin’s legacy insured science would become a casualty as well in Alaska’s continuing war with the federal government!  Hurray!!!  Three birds with one stone-the WOLVES, the FEDS and SCIENCE!!!  I wonder  how much money just got wasted.  It isn’t cheap to collar and track wolves in a science-based effort to build priceless databases…but the people in charge just don’t care…

Today’s Anchorage Daily News documented this devastating story.

Anyway, a long, long time ago, Governor Tony Knowles ended Alaska’s unconscionable aerial wolf control program.  The year was 1995.  But back then, the governor of Alaska had integrity and a conscience.  Sarah Palin and her replacement, Sean Parnell, have neither.  When it comes to predator control, they are psychopaths.

UPDATE

I started to respond to a commenter that mentioned, tongue-in-cheek, something about shooting the scientists…my response got a little wordy so I thought I would just post it as an update here:

The people pushing this aerial predator control and intensive management are clearly not basing their decisions on science.  From the ADF&G website, “Effective March 16th, Director of the Division of Wildlife Conservation, Doug Larsen, will return to his previous duties as Regional Supervisor for the Southeast Region. The new division director will be Corey Rossi…”

Corey Rossi is a Palin crony and was originally appointed to a made-up position last March while a fuss was being made over unqualified Attorney General nominee Wayne Anthony Ross.

The outgoing Director, Doug Larsen, has decades of field experience as a biologist complete with advanced degrees.  Here is part of the announcement from Larsen’s appointment by Commissioner Denby Lloyd back in 2007:

“(Juneau) – Commissioner Denby Lloyd today announced the appointment of Doug Larsen as Director of the Division of Wildlife Conservation for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G). Currently, Larsen is the Southeast Regional Supervisor for the Division, working out of the Douglas office.

“I am extremely pleased that Doug has chosen to step up and lead the Wildlife Division,” said Commissioner Lloyd in announcing the appointment. “His broad experience, his expertise and his enthusiasm for game management in Alaska will serve the Division well.”

Larsen holds degrees from the University of Idaho and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.  He served with the Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and, since 1984, in various positions around the state with the Division of Wildlife Conservation.  Most recently, Doug served five years as the Division’s Assistant Director and four years as the Southeast Regional Supervisor.

Contrast that to Commissioner Lloyd’s press release last week for Corey Rossi:

“The new division director will be Corey Rossi. Corey has served the department for the past year as Assistant Commissioner. Commissioner Lloyd noted in an e-mail to staff that, “Corey has brought to the department a can-do attitude and helped us better understand a variety of public perspectives on the department’s mission and wildlife programs. Corey has adapted well to state service and he has developed strong working relationships with the department’s leadership.” He elaborated noting, “I’m confident he will shepherd the Division of Wildlife Conservation firmly and wisely into the future.”  Mr. Rossi will be based in the Anchorage ADF&G office.”

Hhhmmm…a Director of the Division of Wildlife Conservation ought to have an advanced science degree and at least a four-year degree in biology.  Right?  AND…they ought to have spent time in the field and published some research papers…right?  That is a reasonable expectation for a DIRECTOR OF THE DIVISION OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION…RIGHT???

Not only does Corey Rossi NOT have an advanced SCIENCE degree, Rossi doesn’t have a BIOLOGY DEGREE…IN FACT…COREY ROSSI DOESN’T HAVE A DEGREE AT ALL!!!

Not that degrees are all that.  But they are for the hard-working biologists at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game-many of whom have slaved for decades to be considered for a director’s job, only to be passed over for a Gopher-Choker like Corrie Rossi.  For a high level position like the Director of the Division of Wildlife Conservation, I would expect the appointee to at least have an EDUCATION…But apparently, not in Sarah Palin’s nor Sean Parnell’s crony-vision of Alaska.

Jeanne Devon wrote a great piece over at The Mudflats.  Gryphen also chimed in at Immoral Minority.

  1. Sometimes helicopters crash. That would be a shame. A real shame.

  2. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

  3. Why are these people elected to office in Alaska is what I want to know, the corrupt bastards club, Sarah and her sycophant sociopaths, and those who go along with whatever they do spouting hate along the way? I have seen similar behavior on every level. When I read that the wildlife biologists were not really organized before they went out for the masacre and were “confused”, it has just set me off because most of the things I have gone through involved confused, incompetent, and corrupt people who work for the state. To take so little care that they shot animals ruining research designed to help understand wolf behavior which would contribute to better ability to balance wolves with animals of predation is just one of the most short sighted things I have ever seen and I have seen a lot of short sighted situations in Alaska. Aparently they are trying to blame the federal government’s collars for the problem. Do they not have binoculars or scopes on their rifles? AHHHHHH!

  4. This is just another example of the RWWNJs who claim that God has chosen them to Rule over the entire Planet!Their Theo-Fascist disregard for the Sanctity of Nature&Life is another reason to fight the “Thrilla’ from Wasilla” and her entire Amoral crew of Treasonous War Mongers!

  5. Why these guys are Palin’s brothers-in-arms! Next she’ll be calling liberals ‘sheep in wolves clothing’ and declare it ‘open season’ on anyone registered as a Democrat or an Independent.

    • She already has — when she was down in Orlando FL she launched that poorly conceived attack on US Rep. Alan Grayson.

Talk about bringing a peashooter to square off against a cannon…

  6. Oh my god, I have no words to describe how looking at these magnificent creatures covered in blood and the insane look on the proud “hunters” faces.

Shannyn, you are so knowledgeable about the wolf situation, and are a resident of the state, I think it would be great it you could get involved in this fight to take this to Salazar. We really need you.

And also let’s not forget to demand that the Tourists boards in Alaska contact Parnell to let him know that he is destroying their businesses as well.

  7. I don’t know how anyone could pose next to a dead body smiling and think that’s okay unless they were sick in the head. Sick, sick, sick.

  8. Somebody must know who these men are…some of us would love to send them an email.

  9. i’m with you, wolfgirl. it’s disgusting to know how delighted they are with themselves. it certainly takes a real man to love Jesus and to shoot wolves from a helicopter after they’ve nearly been run to death. real big men. with tiny…anyway…

shannyn, pleeease check out the facebook site. if you’re already on facebook, please join. if you’re not, please spread word of the group to your readers and listeners. this has to stop. and these beautiful creatures need all the support they can get. because it won’t stop with wolves. soon, it’ll be coyotes, foxes, anything that peopel view as “in the way.” AK’s government is teaching the rest of the country that the right way to solve problems is with a gun and a license. idaho and wyoming are following suit… it’s deplorable.

thanks for shedding light on this horrid situation, shannyn!

    • I think the best place to get information and throw your support is http://www.akwildlife.org These are Alaskans who are in the halls of Juneau (including this week) who are credible and dedicated and have been for decades. I had three of them in this week and between them they had over 100 years fighting for the wolves of Alaska.

  10. Sarah’s Sadists.

    It is to weep.

  11. Shannyn,
I read somewhere that you were asking for people to write in and identify the two hunters in these pics.. is that true..? Something about they were from Wasilla.
I have a VERY long email that I sent to your Gov. SP 2.0. You can read it there. I haven’t made the call into his Office YET… but I will. Just one excerpt from that email I sent last night.

“And if BOG needs a little scientific evidence toward how they will vote about the wolf hunting then you can use the data from the Wolves who were being tracked with collars to gather evidence like in the Yukon-Charley Rivers NATIONAL Preserve and analyze that. WHAT… They SHOT the wolves with collars so there is NO evidence anymore. Is that convenient.. or just ‘stupid’ on someones part.It must be ONE of those two.”

Can we just start calling the Board of Game by their REAL name. They are ” HUNTING LOBBYISTS “. Are they not doing what Lobbyists do..? They promote and SELL a message or product. And they get PAID for it. THAT is the definition of a ” lobbyist “… is it not?

  12. So sad to see these poor animals being shot by pathetic hunters. Thanks, Sarah Palin, for your PATHETIC leadership in allowing this to happen. Palin, go hunt your own ass!

  13. Well, you have to shoot the collared wolves. It would be illegal to shoot the scientists. I think.

    • It is also illegal to shoot the wolves.

  14. Hey Guys-

A little humor and stress relief (it’s worth the look).

A humorous story / pictorial of 2 dogs establishing their turf in a back yard in West Texas. Amazing photography of young canines bonding. The story line follows that of a Greek mythological epic saga.

    http://teutonic13.wordpress.com/

  15. Thanks for all your good work here, Shannyn. These pictures are disgusting and disheartening. I am saddened greatly by this situation. Twice Alaskans voted down aerial hunting of wolves and each time the Board of Game, ARROGANTLY over rode Alaskans’ votes and continued killing. A year or so ago, the state put out a costly mailing to citizens “to educate them on the state’s predator program.” This passed in the voting, (I did not vote for it) but many people expressed regret later, saying the wording on the ballot was confusing and misleading. However, the Board of Game simply does as it pleases. Most people don’t realize how much power the governor has in appointments to boards, and Palin did, indeed, load these boards with hunting pals. The Alaska fish & Game, and the BOG, need to be held responsible for this carnage. I wish I did know who the guys in these pictures are.

  16. Hey all,

I caught abt the last 10 mins of Shannyn’s Friday broadcast.

I sent her those pics and am glad she ran with them. Thanks Shannyn. Keep up the good work.

The person in the 2nd picture is Ethan Williams. He is a real estate broker in Wasilla. The other person is called Fritz and is his Ethan’s son or a friend.

Williams Investments131 East Swanson Avenue, Wasilla, AK 99654-7025

He flies a super cub and that is what he uses to get the wolves. He told me they get abt $300 for the pelts.

Solution? Move the Capital to Anchorage so we can hold THEM accountable.

Oh, please email Gov Parnell and the Board of F&G and protest this wanton destruction of life.

    Cheers All

    • Peaty,
What the hell are you talking about “move the Capitol”. Why in the world would you equate bankrupting thousands of good decent Alaskans in Southeast as a solution to wolf hunting from planes? How about we shut down the Anchorage airport so hunters can’t fly into Alaska (would make just as little sense)? Instead of dividing people on this topic, let’s work together.

Let’s come up with common sense solutions like writing, emailing, faxing, or calling your legislator. How about making this a topic of conversation during the upcoming elections?

  17. Oh, they do their aerial killing in Game units 13 & 16.

  18. Shannyn, please, please post this on HuffPo with these pics! Then maybe Rachel and KO will pick it up.

  19. AC,

My thoughts are that we can’t easily access our legislatures while they are so fa away. I mean we’ve voted about 4-times to move it right? If they we’re here we could go see them first hand and have more effect on their thinking.

Your right tho, we do need to work together to get change done.

Good comment AC. Thanks for the thoughts.

    • echoing Bear Woman further down thread…
Those of us IN the capitol city have no more contact with our Legs during session than every other Alaskan has available in email, phone, and letter writing. It’s time to let go of the ‘access’ argument ‘ – crafted by those who hope to cash in on land and building $$s should a move happen.

It is way past time for Alaskans to pay better attention to appointments by the governor and bug the daylights out of the Leg when confirmation hearings are going on.
We talk a lot about how useful having a strong Executive branch is ( in relation to other states) but far too often we run smack dab into appointees who are merely cronies or flat out lulubirds.
It’s time to not only figure out how to work together across our vast distances but to keep a clear eye on all the folks our governors plop into positions of great import as well.
Why was WAR’s appointment the ONLY appointment in our 50 year history the Legs shot down?
Because it’s the only one AK mobilized to stifle, through our Legs…?

  20. What’s the point of wearing camo when the cowards are killing from an airplane?

    • Some people think that just because they shop at Cabela’s, that makes them real hunters (sorta like whatever makes Palin’s “Real Americans” real, I guess).

  21. I did wonder about the camo. I can hear Maddow talking about it already.

  22. My husband and I have been planning for years to visit Alaska and were almost ready to, but given the current blood-lust mentality and lack of respect for Alaskan wildlife and the natural beauty the state has, we will not be visiting any time in the foreseeable future. We have already talked two friends out of visiting there. We will continue to do so as long as these jerks are ruining the beauty and the soul of the state – as long as you let them do so.

We hope that losing tourist dollars will make the policy makers reconsider these ill-advised policies, but I fear they are simply living out some macho blood-lust fantasy. Real men do not have to kill. Real men protect themselves, their families, and the environment that sustains them.

Wolves are not a threat to them or their families. Whales are not a threat to them or their families. However, these guys are simply too ignorant to know that or just too self-absorbed to care. They are little kids in big bodies with big guns but very little brains.

Will they care as your economy goes down because people stay away? Sad to say, maybe they won’t and a lot of innocent, hard-working people will be hurt because tourist dollars begin to dwindle. We always admired Alaskans as caretakers of the last real frontier in our country, but now we are beginning to think not enough of you care to get involved to really stop these guys.

I am not Alaskan, but as a fellow American I call to each of you to defend the wolves and the public lands because your wildlife and your wilderness lands do not belong just to you, they belong to all Americans. However, you have the responsibility to care for them for all of our children. You, by virtue of living there, have this special task, and we will help in every way we can if you step up and stand against these idiots.

Maybe you didn’t elect the people who appointed these jerks who allowed this massacre, but did you do enough to stop those people from getting elected? Can you do more to make them stop this madness?

I know that people who watch and listen to Shannyn’s show and read her blog and who read all the other progressive blogs are people who do care and who do get involved, but how else can I get out my plea? You guys are the only ones to whom I can express my disappointment, fear, and anger. You may not have created the problem, but you at least have the empathy and energy to do something about it, right?

None of us can afford to be lazy or apathetic.

These people are actively destroying whatever they can simply because they can. You are on the front lines. Alaskans have the opportunity to make a difference by exercising political clout.

We will back you up by sending emails, faxes, letters, making calls along side of you, but our voices do not carry the same weight as yours with your political leaders. Your politicians don’t fear us; they fear you.

We can work on the federal leaders, but wouldn’t it be better to see Alaskans rise up and stand against these jerks? If you can, do, and know that you are not alone. You will be fighting for all of us and those of us who care but are not citizens of Alaska will find ways to back you up.

Right now, all we can do is stay away. Keep our hard-earned money and spend it in places that protect the environment, that recognize the beauty in nature and protect wildlife.

We do not want to hurt small business in Alaska, but if you do not rise up and fight the fight against these idiots, we will because it seems that money is the only thing your politicians (or politicians anywhere) pay attention to.

It is shameful that too many Alaskans are allowing your leaders to appoint such ignorant people to key positions. You do not have to sit back and allow them to do that. Wipe those pathetic smirks right off their faces by letting them know you won’t take it and that you demand change.

This is not a partisan fight. This is a fight for the beauty that is Alaska. This is a fight for what makes your state more than ice, snow and rock. It is a fight for the soul of your state, the future of your economy.

You have such a wonderful opportunity and such a difficult challenge, but if what I’ve always heard about Alaskans is true, you have the grit, the intelligence and the spirit to win. Please don’t let these bottom-of-the-gene-pool thugs spoil the state you love.

    • Astonished in KS,

Thanks for your lengthy and passion-filled comment.

Believe me, many of the citizens of this state have fought long and hard to stop aerial predator control. When Sean Parnell was our Lt Governor, he was responsible for the ballot prop language. He intentionally manipulated the ballot initiative language on the prop that would end aerial wolf control. So much so, that many lovers of wolves were horrified when they realized the vote they cast actually did the opposite of what their intention was.

If you are canceling your Alaska vacation, please take a minute to contact Governor Parnell. I have listed his contact details below for your convenience.

    • My advice to you is to hurry up and get up here before it’s all gone

  23. I do not understand your motives Peaty, by exposing the names of the hunters. I hope you are certain of the names of the people in the photos and have verified their identities before publicly posting names and addresses. I know one of the named individuals and don’t feel it is just to post names and places of business. I can say after knowing him for over thirty years he is a reputable person. I have many friends, liberal and conservative in this state. At times it may be difficult to see their side of issues but I do my best to keep a open mind and educate myself on all issues. Shannon, you know the fishing industry and have most likely worked on boats who must deal with the issue of bycatch. We are all Alaskans who try to protect our wildlife. Lets not try to destroy our livelihood with outside interests who have no grasp of the industry.

    • Sorry. But as far as I am concerned, anyone who slaughters an entire wolfpack from the air is not a reputable person. Especially the shooting of the collared wolves near the national park says to me these guys were giving a big “F@ck you” to environmentalists and the federal govt. This kind of behavior by some Alaskans is despicable and it taints all Alaskans. Unfortunately, I suspect Alaska, its govt and many of its people, will close ranks to protect these jerks the same way it has protected Sarah Palin from “outsiders” discovering the truth about her and her questionable schemes. Alaska won’t do anything about this. This is going to take intervention by Ken Salazar and the federal govt. As of 2005, for every dollar of federal taxes Alaskans pays to the US govt, it gets back $1.84 in federal aid. Alaskans benefit tremendously from being part of the United States and yet many of its residents act like they resent the responsibility that comes along with that benefit. It has to change.

      • Hey did you hold our soldiers personally responsible for all the carnage our country inflicted on Iraq?

    • DEMinAlaska,

The guy in the 2nd photo and I consider each a friend. On 2nd thought I probably should not have posted the names and address. I sure hope it doesn’t cause any real harm.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be more prudent next time. IOW, THINK before I post.

      • Have you thought about asking Shannon to remove names and addresses?

        • Why do you feel the need to enable and protect these guys for the choice they made to gleefully slaughter wolves from a plane? It was a terrible decision on their part.

If they’re man enough to do it, they can be man enough to stand by it.

Stop protecting people who do stupid unethical things. I don’t care where you live. These two people are adults who should accept the consequences for their actions. They are obviously proud of what they have done.

      • You did nothing wrong.

  24. If these guys want to pretend they are men by playing with guns, killing things from helicopters, maybe they should be sent to Afghanistan or Iraq where at least many of things they shoot at have the potential to shoot back. When your own life is on the line, killing takes on a different perspective.

Killing a person or an animal should never be done for fun; it is serious business, legally, morally and spiritually. There are consequences for killing, as there should be. These guys just don’t care about consequences. They probably aren’t bright to even think about them.

These men are not hunters. Hunters stalk prey whether the hunters are human or not. These people remind me of former Vice-President Cheney who regarded himself as a brave and mighty hunter when all he did was sit in a car, be driven to a stocked-compound where the game was driven to him and then, only then, would he shoot at them, knowing that he had the upper-hand. He, too, was a coward, just like these men. He took five deferments and didn’t want to face the consequences of killing or being killed. He and these men seem to have a lot in common.

Why don’t these pansy-assed helicopter gunners, throw down their guns, and get down in the snow, track and then fight a wolf face-to-face, hand-to-paw? Because they don’t have the balls or guts to do so, that’s why. They will only kill something when there is no chance that they will be endangered. They kill from helicopters or trucks or shot things caught in traps that can’t fight back.

That they feel they are entitled to kill in this way is a sad commentary on the society in which they live. You have to ask yourself, how far a stretch is it until these guys feel entitled to kill not just whatever they want, but whoever they want?

  25. This just makes me so sad Shannyn. I sent the email earlier today to Parnell asking that he stop this. I hope my email doesn’t get thrown out as I also went a step further and asked him to remove himself from the undue influence of the previous administration, and we all know who I am talking about! This has to end! Alaskans deserve better!

    • Daisydem, Parnell is a waste of time unless you are from Alaska (are you?)

  26. What’s really weird to me is that these guys are posing with the wolves as if the wolves are their dog companions just snuggled up for a good scratch behind the ears.

    Sick.

  27. These hunters are crazy. So disgusting. There’s no way this act can be redeemed.

    • “Shooting wolves from planes is to hunting, what hiring a prostitute is to dating.”

      These guys aren’t hunters.

  28. I sent an email to the Discovery Channel and to A&E, both of which are considering a reality show with $arah Palin. I included a copy of the ADN article and a picture of the wolves that were slaughtered. I won’t say it was shot because that’s putting it too nicely. I don’t know how anybody can shoot a defenseless animal from a helicopter. If they were shooting an animal to feed their family, I’d have no problem with it. This is such a despicable practice. I thought it was deemed illegal during Palin’s administration or was that just the bounty being offered illegal?

Please join me and email Discovery and A&E and put a stop to the farce of a reality show entitled “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”. It would only be reality if they showed aerial animal hunting, toxic lakes, the polar bears being removed from the endangered species list and all those Big Box stores she brought into Wasilla. Someone needs to stop this woman. She is not representative of the beautiful state of Alaska.

  29. Shannyn here another petition to sign or you can start your own on this site. http://www.care2.com/news http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/co-sponsor-the-paw-acts-1535-hr-3381

  30. sick of the alaska board of game and their poor decisions.

these idiots in the pictures- why do they always need pictures? yep, shannyn there is a shortage of viagra in wasilla.

the mentality is- if it is alive, kill it. if it is beautiful, destroy it.

  31. For those of you planning on cancelling a trip to Alaska, please write to Gov. Parnell and tell hiim why you are cancelling. He is currently trying to reduce the tax on cruise ships for each passenger, stating that the drop off in cruise passengers is due to $14 in taxes. If you cancel without communicating with the Governor as to the real reason, he will just chock it up to his nonsense of $14 making the difference in someone visiting….

  32. peaty, moving the capitol is not the answer. “Your legislators” will not see you when the legislature is in session. They respond to big business and big money — that’s it…. Since the Anchorage legislators are in residence in Anchorage for 9 months of the year, visit them in their home office. There are no pending bills regarding aerial predator control at this time and it is too late in the session to introduce a new bill. Many of the Anchorage legislators have encouraged voters to vote down the bans on predator control.

  33. I run the blog Howling For Justice, Blogging For The Gray Wolf.
    http://howlingforjustice.wordpress.com

Just wrote a post about the slaughter of the Webber Creek Pack from the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. I’m sickened by it.

I live in the Northern Rockies and we have same crazy people here in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming that want every wolf shot dead. The Idaho legislature actually passed a resolution asking their wolf hating Governor, Butch Otter, to declare a state of emergency concerning their “wolf problem”.

Everytime I see pictures of the psycho wolf killers they all seem to have that horrible grin on their faces.

Wolves need help here in the Northern Rockies, over six hundred wolves are dead since they were delisted by Obama in 2009. Between the ongoing Idaho hunt, which doesn’t end until March 31st, the Montana hunt, Wildlife Services, the SSS crowd, poaching and general wolf mortality, wolves are being hammered on every front.

  34. SHANNYN, PLEASE READ. THIS COULD GET PALIN WHERE IT HURTS & ALSO GET SOME NATIONAL ATTENTION . Palin is trying to get DISCOVERY channel or A&E, I think, to produce her Alaska reality series. Blog has it that Discovery is interested. WHO WATCHES DISCOVERY? It is NOT the TeaPartiers or those of Palinlike intellect. It is people who are curious, environmentally concerned, people who enjoy science. You have either direct or indirect contacts with those who could speak with the Discovery producers & persuade them to nix the series, produce Alaska with another persona –you maybe or to portray Palin’s attack on wildlife , now & past, & her manipulation to defeat clean water & buy into Pebble, & lots of other stuff. The media has never really scrutinized Palin & maybe Discovery is interested enough in truth, science & the biosphere that they will see how they’re damaging their own credibility by paying her 1 million an episode or even 1$ to flaunt herself with her “beloved” Alaska. I really think that this is a possibility if someone could make contact. Please let me know what you think. Thanks. This has got to STOP. Dawn

  35. I’ve been following the Iditarod. And how the mushers love their dogs so much. Dogs that look so much like these wolves.

How can Alaskans love their dogs and hate their wolves?

Perhaps side by side pictures of the mushers loving their dogs contrasted to these murders posing so proudly with their slaughter would be a wake up to Alaskans to stop electing asshats to government that then appoint asshats to the boards that promote this slaughter. Time to stop voting against your own interests.

  36. […] more about it at The Mudflats and Just a Girl from Homer. There’s also a piece at The Immortal […]

  37. I can not describe my shame and anger. The killing mentality in this state is a damn shame. Last fall some idiot shoots a bear at a tourist viewing pull out in front of a bunch of people who had been viewing the bears. Some moron this week shot a 8 pound chihuahua with a shot gun. I have watched this behavior for many years, there seems to be no remorse in killing what so ever.
But I find this practice of “Aerial Sniper” “predator control” abhorrent.
I will be using pen and pocket book to fight this

  38. Those 2 clowns in the pictures above are not hunters. Real hunters don’t hunt from airplanes or helicopters.

  39. The whole thing sickens me. It’s time to restore competence and integrity in Alaskan government, starting with the governor’s office. How in the h#ll could anyone allow the likes of $arah Palin to do so darned much damage in such a short time???!!!! And shame, shame, shame on Sean Parnell for forsaking his values and following lockstep with the worst grifter governor that Alaska has ever seen. Absolutely disgusting.

  40. Disgusting and dishonorable.

Can just anyone in AK shoot a wolf? Do they apply for a license? I thought it was supposed to be done by state employees.

Regardless, it’s an inhumane and chicken shit way of hunting. No respect or dignity whatsoever in this method.

I don’t have a problem with people knowing the names of chicken shit hunters who do this. Heck, I hope it does hurt their business’ bottom line.

Publicly shame the creeps who do this crap and boycott their businesses. Don’t let them gloat with pride over such a low chicken ass act of slaughter. They should be ashamed of themselves. There is no honor to hunting this way.

Like others have said, this is a rich mans lazy ass way of trophy hunting which really boils down to wasteful disrespectful slaughter.

I think it’s okay to identify and shame people who act like jerks.

    • and I’ll ask you the same question:
Hey did you hold our soldiers personally responsible for all the carnage our country inflicted on Iraq?

      • what does that have to do with anything? the only choice our soldiers get during war is if they will go or desert. no one enlisted these hunters, threw guns in their hands and told them to go and annihilate these wolves. they likely paid their $30-$50 for a license, chartered an aircraft, cracked open a few beers and had a field day. for some reason, this scenario seems strikingly different than war. maybe it’s the beers.

the point is that our troops were doing what they were ORDERED by the GOVERNMENT to do. these hunters were just shootin’ at some federally protected by collar wolves.

        • “the point is that our troops were doing what they were ORDERED by the GOVERNMENT to do.

“Just like they were ordered to torture and kill civilians in Iraq. So you are protecting these soldiers that killed, raped and tortured innocent civilians. I say we print the names and their business addresses. These soldiers could have said no to the government.

Even though I disagree with what these hunters did, what they did is not illegal. The state of Alaska asked them to do this. The people you should be angry towards are the ones responsible for allowing this to happen.

I think Shannon Moore shoud not have printed the names and addresses of these guys. I equate her actions to Eddie Burke outing the womens names and phone # on the abortion issue during his radio show last summer.

          • I didn’t print their names or addresses.

          • OK you are right. You allowed a poster to and he even admitted that maybe that was a mistake. The damage has already been done

          • all right. let’s review here.

yes, there are instances where soldiers raped, pillaged, etc. and yes, those soldiers should be punished for what they did that was beyond their orders. however, what you’ve done is group ALL soldiers under that banner, which is a big mistake. not all have raped, pillaged, tortured.

just like not all hunters shot collared wolves. but the ones who did DID do something illegal. those wolves were federally protected to be studied by researchers. just like last year, 14 wolf pups were gassed in their dens, a practice that was then ILLEGAL and they were never punished, just like the ones who shot collared wolves will never be punished.

          • Are you sure the hunters in the photo’s are the same ones that shot the collared wolves? The whole point I am trying to make is that I thought it was wrong for Shannon to allow the poster to list names with addresses. Remember the hit list on the internet for the doctors that performed abortions or the list of judges. As I remember people were murdered. As much I disagree with hunting wolves from the air I think by letting someone post the names and addresses of the hunters is just plain wrong.

  41. Where can I send the Viagra…..

  42. This is what I’ve sent the Discovery Network, I directed it to “Rogue Nature” because they require the commenter to click a show to comment about and couldn’t think of a better title for Palin.

” I have grave misgivings regarding the thoughts of your network welcoming Sarah Palin into the fold. This woman cares nothing for the animals of her state (see wolf killing from airplanes and helicopters). She has shown a lack of compassion for the natives forced to live on handouts to survive the winters due to traditional hunting areas being blocked to them. This woman is in cahoots with BIG OIL, and would have Alaska’s wildlife snuffed out for another chance to augment her bank account. She is a divisive woman well on her way to leading the uneducated and scared toward Civil War. Why would Discovery chance the real possibility of persons they hope to reach being turned off (and turning off the channel)?”

    • Exactly Susan……..why would they. I cannot think of one reason other than trying to lure the dumbfounded ignorant in order to educate them.

  43. That bitch Palin isn’t a hunter, and anybody who shoots from a helicopter
is a pussy..! Real hunters don’t do it like that- pussy boys do!

    • Thank you. I agree.

  44. If the radio collars were federal, why don’t the feds arrest the entire group of shooters for destruction of government property? Frankly, the FAA should revoke whatever license the helicopters have… next time they go into the air, send the jets in and take ’em out.

    • My guess would be jurisdiction and frickin regulation and laws. I dislike this part of our legal system, it’s too easy to cast blame to another dept or use the ‘oath’ to protect ‘whatever’.

  45. I contend that the whole department of Fish and Game’s plan is to staff every position with unqualified office workers. No ethics, pick on the little guy, kill-em all so we don’t have to work in the field office workers This appointment confirms my prediction. It’s a political game and not a management priority.

  46. Will someone with photoshop, please photoshop a shot wolf with Soura Palins’ head on it….

    • Oh, and would please make a million posters and scatter them about the world wide web …

  47. Support the ♥PAW♥ act
    “The Protect
America’s Wildlife Act, H.R. 3381 by Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.)
and S. 1535 by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), would close the
loophole in the federal Airborne Hunting Act and stop the destructive
actions of state officials in Alaska”

    • crystalwolf aka caligrl;

Thanks for that info. I’ll read ’em and if they will stop or mitigate aerial wolf, or any aerial hunting, I’ll send out a red alert.

      woof!.

      Peaty

  48. Nature takes care of itself. Humans are an integral part of the natural world, but only falsely so. Very few of us are prepared to actually live without our technological advances. Wildlife does just fine without our intervention. For humans, if there are less fish, then there are fewer fisherman. If there are less moose, then there are less people able to kill a moose. We attempt to modify the course of nature but that will be a losing proposition in the end as nature will come to terms with our growing population and abuse of the natural world.

Even with our superior technology we can’t control human overpopulation and do not have the means to produce enough food for us. Nature proves superior when dealing with our ever growing numbers.

Sometimes humans become part of the natural food chain and we are reminded then of our place in this world. Timothy Treadwell represented this in his little slice of the world in which he made “friends” with bears; some of them but not all of them.

Humans are woefully inadequate when actually called upon to live as one in harmony with wildlife. We make a choice to exercise the power inherent within our society to attempt to control nature with our superior technology.

However, Nature will win in the end.

  49. Not having minimum educational requirements for a scientist is just insane. Corey Rossi should immediately be replaced by someone who has an advanced degree. They don’t want the educated because they will have the ability to argue the truth with something the republican regime can’t handle, facts, when told to do something they know is wrong. I am wondering if shooting those wolves is a violation of some kind of federal law. It would seem especially criminal when the very people who should be assisting with upholding wildlife regulations would commit such a beligerent act.

This is a symptom of a widespread problem of anti-science and anti-education promoted by those who have an agenda of money or fringe religious beliefs. It is the reason there are so many problems with the best educators being driven out of universities. It is the reason the healthcare corporations run off the nurses with bachelors degrees and lots of experience, they want 2 year nurses with little experience so they can manipulate them, as well as pay them less. We suffer with both education and healthcare ending up mediocre. We are being lead by the worst of us, rather than the best of us.

  50. It’s even better (worse) than all the above. Corey Rossi is a board member of SFW Alaska. SFW (Sprotsmen For Wildlife) is a hunter group out of Utah, dedicated to intensive abundance based wildlife management. They are behind the bear snaring in unit 16 and proposals to allow bear snaring outside of predator control programs in the interior. They have a method of infiltrating game management in different states and then being “rewarded” by the State for their helpfulness by being awarded coveted tags to auction or raffle off at their banquets. And guess who in Alaska has the final say if a group gets these tags or not? Why curiously enough, it is Director of the Division of Wildlife Conservation who would happen to now be Corey Rossi, SFW Alaska board of director member.

    Conflict of interest?

    • it’s all a conflict of interest. al barrette, the deciding vote on removing the buffer around denali, is a lifetime member of both the NRA and the AK trappers association. he runs a taxidermy shop and sells wolf traps. so yeah. the wolves have no chance.

  51. Whelp the diff between compassion and self interests is a fine line.

Innate, hidden and obscured by values of long ago has decided our actions.

The need to host the host is in all of us.

  52. A really interesting blog, keep up the good work!

  53. Look people, if the wolf population is down by 17 percent, there must be like a million left. These animals have no problem breeding. In fact, Montana is now overpopulated by wolves to the point that they are KILLING FOR FUN herds of elk, deer, coyotes at an endangering pace. You anti-hunters hate it when we hunt but grant a waiver to the wolves who are killing for sport the hooved animals. There is nothing wrong NOTHING with controlled harvest of these animals. Stuff em, eat em, do whatever but left unattended, they will ruin the environment you are trying to save.

  54. I used to support Sara Palin 100%, but she lost my vote and that of my family when she began this. I am NOT anti hunting, I hunt to eat not for fun and selectively, I use everything even bones and sinew. I live with my two sons 11 and 12, two Wolves (male and Female) 8 Malamutes and whatever wildlife my sons decide to adopt. No one hunts Wolves on my land and I have never killed a Wolf unless it was too sick or injured to live. Keep up the good work!

  55. Replace Rossi with L David Mech!
