What If?

This is an insightful comment I am reposting from Ackerman on Huffington Post.

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three-month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who became addicted to painkillers and acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama’s family had made their money from beer distribution?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another.

What would you add to the list of “What Ifs?”

Responses

  1. What if Obama were the one to appoint an under-qualified nominee for Vice President who had a husband who had been a member of a militia group?

  2. What if Obama was investigated for Troopergate and was found unethical?

  3. What if Obama said to McCain durnig a debate, “That one.”

What if Obama called McCain “disrepectful?”

What if Obama said about McCain, “We are going to kick his you-know-what.”

  4. Heard you on KUDO tonight, agreed with everything you said except! Spenard Builders Supply did not build the Wasilla Sports Complex. Nor Palin’s house. They are exactly what the name states, a building supply company. Supplied materials. Do not offer contractors or laborers or carpenters. Do not erect steel buildings.
Its clear that there is something shady about both the Complex and her house, but nobody is looking for the real perpetrator.

Here is an article about the house building/sports complex story. SBS was listed as a subcontractor for the complex. There are many, and the article is researched well. Please check it out. The Voice story and this one are where I got my information. Cheers!

  5. Reminds me on the movie “In and Out” in the final part where Kevin Klein’s family starts to stand up and say “I’m Howard’s mother, I must be gay.” etc.. So association by proximity is the new way of politics. After all we can all see Russia from our houses we are foreign policy experts.
    Interesting What ifs!

  6. Alaska = extreme racism against Alaska Natives… If one doesn’t think so, well then your head is stuck in a snow bank at 40 below.

  7. I have no doubt that racism has played a big role in the double standard that has been in play over the course of the campaign. I think the “elite media” the Republicans reflexively rail against has not, until recently, subjected McCain/Palin to the scrutiny they deserve.

Much of what the post listed has dribbled out so slowly that none has caught the fancy of the voting public. However, the cumulative effect is devastating when you look at the big picture.

I’m still trying to picture Cindy McCain going to Harvard. “Legally Blond 3: Cindy Goes to Boston.”

  8. What if Michelle Obama wore skin-tight, very short dresses?

What if Obama spoke using terms like “Gonna” “workin’,” “you betcha,” and other sloppy English?

What if Joe Biden or Obama hadn’t graduated from College?

  9. What if black people at Obama’s rallies shouted out “Kill Him!” about McCain while Obama smiled?

  10. What if …….. McCain and Palin had integrity.
By the way, I heard on our local news that here, in Arizona, the race is tightening!! I don’t think anyone figured my state to become Blue – here’s hoping.

  11. What if Barack and Michelle owned 7 very expensive houses.

What if Barack proposed a tax plan that would save him and his wife hundreds of thousands each year.

What if Barack had a paid lobbyist on his campaign who had worked for Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac until just recently.

What if Barack was known to have called his wife a c*nt and a trollop publically.

What if one of Barack’s campaign staff reported he had an affair with another woman during the campaign.

What if there was close to no history of Barack being involved in Christian churches or community organizing.

  12. Suitably chastised! Still dont think SBS cut her any slack on the billing for the house. But they are indeed sponsoring Team Palin.
I bet Fidelity takes care of that little matter in short order.

  13. This post was brilliant – I sent a copy of it to my still doubting, normally Democrat mom who most likely IS influenced by his race. I also sent a copy to a couple of people who have declared themselves for McCain.
I also applaud all of these additions to the list – equally brilliant!

  14. I am sooo sick of people saying she has more experience than Obama… Please view…

I’m a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight…..

    * If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.”

    * Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

    * If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

    * Name your kids, Piper, Willow, Bristol, Trig and Track, and you’re a maverick.

    * Graduate from Harvard law School and be President of the Law Review, and you are unstable.

    * Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, flunk out of two of them, you’re well grounded.

    * If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters,
spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people,
become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 3 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people
while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees,
you don’t have any real leadership experience.

    * If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people,
20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people,
then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive.

    * If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.

    * If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a Christian.
Or has an affair with your husband’s business partner…

    * If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

    * If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant , you’re very responsible.

    * If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America’s.

    * If your husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DUI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

    OK, much clearer now.
