HOW AFRAID ARE THE “Not so Jesus Christians?”

Here is Jerry’s Letter……

Gay rights ordinance is bad

Here are just some of the reasons I am against the homosexual ordinance.

It would allow any man to dress like a woman and use any public women’s restroom. Ladies, do you want that to happen? If not then you should contact the Anchorage Assembly and show up at the June 9 public hearing.

A man in a highly visible sales job could come to work dressed like a woman.

A person of either sex who indulges a taste for extreme sexual promiscuity and pornography during working hours could not be stopped or fired even though it damages the company’s image.

Maybe, worst of all, this ordinance would allow a man who teaches a second grade class or any grade to show up as a woman in the classroom and the School District could do nothing because of this ordinance.

This is a poorly written ordinance. For more of my explanation can be found at

— Dr. Jerry Prevo

pastor, Anchorage Baptist Temple

  1. I’m not so religious now but was raised Lutheran. (the liberal sort) I feel like these people stole my Jesus.

  2. So sorry Alaska. You got “crazy fever” running hot up there. I am so tired of haters hiding behind Jesus–seems the wingers convenienetly forget that JC was hanging with the lepers and washing feet.

  3. Wow. I looked at that I & thought, hmmm… looks suspiciously familiar. In fact, looks like it came right out of Jerry Prevo’s May 15 letter to “community leaders” that’s plumb full of the same kind of red herrings & lies as displayed in that graphic.

And when I finally found a page that had any info, guess what? Turns out that the site wants people to send money to the Anchorage Baptist Temple. I’m shocked, I tell you. Shocked.

(For people who want to know what that letter said, especially the lies it tells about the legal definition of “sexual orientation”, I wrote a blog post about it yesterday called “Prevo’s red herrings.”

    — Mel Green,

  4. I can’t believe people spend time making actual websites about this. I have a theory that those who are the most vocal and fearful about homosexuals are themselves at least bi, but perhaps have never acted on it, and have a warped fundamentalist Christian perspective where they simply cannot allow themselves to admit it. A skewed, screwed up view of sexually (very forbidden, very secret, etc.) So, they spew hatred and go to great lengths to make life miserable for those they fear.

  5. Ugly. There are no words except:

Pastor Prevo is making baby Jesus cry…again.

  6. My Jesus does not hates, He despises seen Sarah praying so hard to do so wrong and He truly turns red to see her making deals in His CHURCH.

Sarah Palin cannot make me turn away from Jesus.
    she is just a troll.

  7. I couldn’t tell whether the link you posted was satire. I clicked on some of the links on the page, and I’m still not sure.

  8. A link at the bottom points to . Another ministry of the big church at the corner of Baxter and Northern Lights.

  9. Yeah, I thought it looked very familiar — all based on Prevo’s red herring arguments from his May 15 letter to “community leaders.” I posted yesterday about how methodology in lying about the ordinance’s definition of “sexual orientation” –

  10. Fear, fear, and more fear.

  11. This is the same BS they passed around here in Cali for prop 8! You watch, next they will have churches parading carrying signs!
I just watched the movie “Milk” tonight and they did this then with Anita Bryant!
These so called “christian’s or FREEPERS” nothing but haters!
    They make me sick.

  12. This same kind of rhetoric was also used against passing the Equal Rights Amendment back in the 1970’s. Not much new here — just the same old hate and scare tactics.

My Jesus has no fear, does not hate, teaches love thy neighbor as thyself. Hmmm, sounds like Obama knows MY Jesus.

    • Hm, sounds like your Jesus and mine must be the same one! He’s a good guy, that one.

  13. Hey – I’m gay but didn’t get this memo about an ordinance update to our massive gay agenda. I was told to just quietly wait , watching old Ellen reruns and putting rainbow stickers around the neighborhood until the word came down from the higher ups in the gay army. Does this mean our long awaited glorious gay revolution started without me ??

Damn….that’s what I get for having been busy raising my kids, cleaning my house, paying my bills and working my normal non-gay job.

Ah well – I suppose I’ll have to be happy just living a regular life like the heteros. (and really – I’ve got nothing against them. Some of my best friends are straight. )

Enjoy your holiday weekend bbqs with your families everyone!

  14. Kis,
Because of the crude layout and screaming headers, I thought it was satire, too, something along the lines of Landover Baptist Church.

Apparently, unfortunately, it is for real.

  15. the insanity on the main page makes me think it’s all satire. Then it goes in for the kill.

What is WRONG with people? I am dealing with someone in my extended family (S-I-L) that is homophobic and feels the need to “protect” her (my brother’s) children from me. She’s insane, to boot.

Do these people actually THINK I chose to be oriented this way? Why the hell would I choose to be ridiculed, misunderstood, judged, and accused of being immoral? I’m one of the best people I know. Salt of the earth. Do anything for anyone. Too bad the bigots of the world will never know this.

I need to burn my soapbox now. I get all crazy about this stuff.

  16. Shannyn, I know this is off topic, but why has neither Keith Olberman nor Rachel Maddow picked up on the Palin scandal? Back in January I wrote them each a letter and enclosed a packet of pictures taken from Palin deception and another blog by a shotoshp expert demonstrating that Palin lied about the pregnancy. I didn’t expect to get a reply, but I did expect to get their interest. Since you are in touch with Olbermann, perhaps you can get his attention. Many thanks.

  17. I think Gandhi must have known a few Prevo-pods when he offered this: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

  18. Shannyn,
I just went to the link you provided. These people are ‘disgusting BIGOTS’…. NOT Christians. Years ago I was a Boy Scout as well and the fact that these people are ‘ USING’ the Boy Scouts logo as well as their image of the Salvation Army on their webpage infuriates me. Their ideology has NOTHING to do with these fine organizations. To bad a lawyer (from the orgs.) can’t make them remove the images or logos. They have a link to email them…. should I ‘send them my opinion’ or will they just get off on that..? or should we just disregard them..?
These people are worse than the “Focus on Family” people down there in Texas (oh yeah… Palin’s Friends) or at least they are first Cousins to them.

  19. Fear-mongering

  20. This is a tired republican mantra. It’s been all over the lower 48 and discussed by”pundits” on the news media a couple of years ago, at least.

Alaska being the last frontier, attracts many unusual and yes crazy folks that do not fit into “society” in the lower 48.

Thats why you have those nut jobs on that website and Sarah Palin. They ARE the republican base and that is why only 20% of the population admit that they are republican.

Who on earth wants to belong to a group like that?

Colin Powell is correct, folks are waiting for a new republican party to emerge.

When the republican party sold it’s soul to these religious wing nuts in the south, they lost their party. The wing nuts have taken over and like I’ve said they ARE the base now. That’s why they admire Sarah Palin, they see the same crazy in her as they do in the mirror.

  21. I see that the “Reverend” Prevo has set many of these fears down in a letter to the editor this morning. He sounds completely ridiculous, even more over the top than usual.

  22. that letter is satire correct? It’s something the
Colbert show would come up, including the website.

If it’s not satire, then that man is bat sheet crazy. He must have been raised by mentally challenged parents.

  23. I have not attended any church in a long time, but I seem to remember something along the lines of Hate not being a Christian Value.

People like that are sick, twisted individuals!

  24. If there is no prohibition against establishing a dress code then, if applied equally, the scariest-of-the-scary scenarios would be eliminated.

Also, a municipal ordinance wouldn’t trump state and federal privacy laws, so the bathroom example cannot stand either.

Further, an ordinance that denied a business any repercussion for mass pornography and sexual promiscuity during working hours would be absurd and therefore a court could not interpret it that way.

  25. Oh this stuff keeps getting regurgitated by the so called religious folk. This crap is old news redone to strike fear in Alaskans. These people use Jesus as a shield against their homophobic fears and that is so seriously unchristian.

  26. The part people around me have been commenting on is that Prevo appears to have shifted from beating up on gays to beating up on cross dressings and transgender people.

So now the question is what is Jerry really afraid of and what color and fabric are his panties made of? It is a sin against God to mix fabric, so if he is wearing his polyester suits and silk panties, he is on the fast track to the hot place.

Watch out Doctor. You know Jesus is watching.

  27. And on the other side…will the right Reverend Jerry Blowhard then legislate that *I* can no longer wear pants but must always wear a dress? And perhaps hose and heels as well? Maybe he’ll require that I always wear lipstick and makeup.

Maybe he’d like to make a law that little boys can only play with cars and little girls can only play with dolls.

Let us kneel and thank God that we do NOT have a Theocracy in this country. (yet)

  28. This cabal is all about control. Your bodies, your mind and most of all sex.
Smaller, non existent government is the answer by every republican unless it comes to sex.
    Then, more control is better.
If the liquor industry was not so profitable, they would advocate prohibition again.

To these men, sex is not an expression of love between a man and women and any other combination of man and women.
It is a duty and you know who, determines who what when where and how, the white republican male, southern or not, ordained or not.

If you do not want homosexual sex, don’t have it.
If you don’t want to have an abortion, don’t have one.
But please, let the rest of us determine our religious beliefs and our own moral compass.
It is our own responsibility how we live our lives.

  29. What a strange life this Dr Prevo must lead! Is this indicative of what he thinks about all day? What are his nightmares like? I imagine the answers could fill a whole textbook on abnormal psychology.

  30. Afraid enough he is running tons of ads on TV.

  31. I need to build a bigot idiot ejector. Mr. Prevo can be my beta tester, I’m sure he won’t mind leaving Earth to be closer to his crabby god!

  32. Dr Prevo was on the Eddie Burke Show today on KBYR between 4 & 5 pm

Here it is in 4 parts

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

    Part 4

  33. So, wait. Homosexual men like to dress like women and use our restrooms? Since when? I’m not understanding this guy…

  34. […] Saturday evening, by way of Shannyn Moore’s blog (in a post with the ever-so-accurate title, HOW AFRAID ARE THE “Not so Jesus Christians?”), came news of a new website, — the SOS being an acronym, according to the […]
