Schaffer Apologizes For His Role in Dr. Tiller’s Death

Having grown up with Schaffer’s father’s book around…this is one of the most powerful testimonies I have ever seen.  Rachel Maddow is amazing.

  1. Thanks for posting this, Shannyn.

I, too, grew up with Francis Schaeffer books lying around the house. In fact, I’m sure that some of my Talivangelical extended family would still consider Frank Schaeffer to be “one of them” — they aren’t discerning when it comes to how and where they get their information (i.e., FOX News addicts). I’m certain they have NO IDEA that Frank Schaeffer is consistently distancing himself from his “evangelical Christian” background and earlier alliances.

  2. I felt so bad for him, you could tell he was hurting. He genuinely felt remorse and sorrow for the assassination of Dr. Tiller.

I disagree with him about the later term abortions and their need, but that’s just me, and my choice. Sometimes there is a necessity for them, but that has to be a decision that is left up to the mother and father and the doctor, not someone in a terrorist organization.

Thanks for posting this Shannyn and staying on top of this. We need to keep making sure our voices are heard.

The Anti-Choice voices need to be silenced but only by us talking louder than them, not like they try to silence us.

  3. I hope he gets a lot more air time in the coming weeks and months–his words must be heard!

  4. Not only is Frank Schaeffer an honorable man he is a talented writer as well. I have a few of his books on my shelves and can readily confirm that “Crazy For God” is a brave and important book for anyone who wants to get to grips with the rise of fundamentalist thinking that has invaded so much of American politics these last years.

  5. I do not like the term “pro-life”. Any decent human being is pro-life. Everyone wants people to have less abortions. “They” have turned the rhetoric ugly and divisive and it doesn’t need to be. They are so myopic I can’t stand it. Pro-life’s opposite is not anti-life, but that’s what they are trying to get people on the fence to buy. That the ones of us who support choice are really “anti-life”. Ridiculous and insulting.

Pro-choice IS the opposite of anti-choice. Why can’t they use “anti-choice” instead? I’ll tell you: it’s not inflammatory enough. They play on people’s emotions.

I’m impressed by this man’s fortitude. He’s right, “Call it what it is.”

  6. Thank you. People like him, rare as they are, give me hope.
