Iraq 9/11 and Sarah Palin

While Alaska endures a Constitutional Crisis, Governor Sarah Palin is working with a “suspended campaign”. Our Governor spent today in New York. She was asked about her support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, who now finds himself in a Washington DC federal courtroom defending a seven count indictment. She blew off the question saying, “Ted Steven’s trial started a couple days ago…we’ll see where that goes.” I wasn’t surprised she squirmed out of that question. She has been cozy with Stevens when it has served her political agenda, even headed up his 527 organization. With her new public persona of being a “Good Ole Boy” crusher, she is in a quandary.

She was asked another question and Americans ought to pay attention to her answer. Palin was asked if she thought the U.S. presence in Iraq and Afghanistan was helping to mitigate terrorism. “I think our presence in Iraq and Afghanistan will lead to further security of our nation. Again, because the mission is to keep the fight over there. Do not let them come over here and attempt again what they accomplished here and that was some destruction. Terrible destruction. On that day. But, since September 11th, Americans uniting and rebuilding and committing to never let that happen again.”

Why would Sarah Palin link the current occupations to September 11th? Does she not know? Even George W. Bush has stated Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with the attacks on that day. The hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, and The United Arab Emirates.

It was neither Iraqi nor Afghani Citizens who crashed into our soil, our buildings, and our history. She should know this. Do you think it was a slip?

At her son’s Fort Wainwright deployment ceremony, the Governor also linked the Iraq war to the attacks of September 11, 2001. She told the Iraq-bound brigade of soldiers that included her son that they would “defend the innocent from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the deaths of thousands of Americans.” She continued, “America can never go back to that false sense of security that came before September 11, 2001.” One could argue that ‘the false sense of security’ is repeating the Neocon idea that killing people in a different country makes you safer. One could also argue that breaking the backbone of the Constitution in exchange for “security” is a false sense of patriotism.

Palin highlighted her “trip of a lifetime” to Iraq in the Charlie Gibson interview to exhibit her foreign knowledge and experience. Maybe if she would have actually gone to Iraq, and not the border crossing on the Kuwait side, she could have discovered these facts. The chest pounding, not blinking, gut checking, fact ignoring policy results in a lack of “exit strategies” for the devastating wars, the economic crisis and the emerging environmental catastrophe.

For her to reference a link between 9/11 and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is either deliberately disingenuous or completely and unabashedly ignorant. America has endured eight years of the Bush Administration who have intentionally and continually misled the American people to believe this relationship exists. It has cost us dearly; some more than others.

Sarah Palin may not know what the Bush Doctrine is, but she sure understands the Bush Philosophy.

  1. Shannyn, you are severly underemployed! I stumbled across your brilliant blog while participating in dicussions at AKMuckrakers forum.

One thing we can do to expose Gov. Palin in the lower 48 is to ask your readers to contribute even $10 to defendersactionfund.org. We have successfully aired our 527 ad to much success in OH, FL MI and CO.
Now we are raising $250,000 in the next 4 days to buy ad time during the VP debates nationally. I realize that not everyone concurs with the aerial hunting, but this ad sways voters in a major way, viscerally. Hunters in PA like my Dad were sickened and disgusted by the practice and without knowing a single detail said “Rich trophy shooters must be doing this because I don’t know a single hunter or wildlife expert who would do such a thing”. My Dad isn’t partisan.

A focus group that anaylzes ads said
“The ad which focuses on Governor Palin’s record regarding the treatment of wildlife in Alaska seemed to strike a chord with voters,” commented Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research. “The recent ads from both parties have had little impact among voters. This is the first ad in over a month that seems to have broken through,” he added.

When people have seen this ad they questioned her moral authority, her decency and her ties to big money influences.

Thanks for all you do, you are a bright light on the darkness that envelops this dangerous candidacy.

Loved you on Olberman, had no idea you did all this!

  2. Great piece. Again. I am glad I found you. I have listening to Air America every night. You are a tremendous feature. I hope you get your own national show somewhere…SOON! Thanks again.

    Bill

  3. Excellent piece, Shannyn!

Having watched last night’s debate after a week of Palin gaffes and stumbles, I’m looking forward to the VP debate on Thursday.

I’m predicting that her performance will be poor and that it will expose McCain’s poor judgment in picking her and her own lack of depth and information.

Watching her on TV makes me cringe; thinking of her as VP makes me afraid.

On the plus side, she is now safe from witches, which will ease the Secret Service’s job, especially on Halloween!

My best from the Lower 48–

  4. You are doing a wonderful job for all of us, in exposing Gov. Palin. Read your comments everyday and pass them around in the lower 48. Don’t you wonder how we all got to this point?
Finding out all the facts in her regard to animals is appalling and totally inhumane. I belong to Defenders of Wildlife, and was instructed tocall/e-mail Alaska to stop killing wolves. I live in Arizona, but called the Gov’s office and left a message to “save the wolves”. Little did I know that that was a wasted long distance call. I had no idea things were as bad as they were. Of course, her treatment of women and Indians is appalling too. She is a reincarnated “Attilla the Hun”. It is terrible that the Campaign has taken over Alaska, and now have her hidden away. The debates will be an embarrassment for us all.
Thank you for all you do and we all love it.

  5. As per usual Shannyn, excellent to outstanding.

Here’s a link to a 3 Pt. series of short videos with Katie and Sarah. Pt. 3 really should make anyone feel sorry for Sarah. Seems McNasty & Co. have been molding her like silly putty, but they have a lot of work left to do and a short amount of time to do it in. On the other hand some of Joe Biden’s remarks lately make me wonder…a lot? Maybe McNasty and Obama should get together and agree on one thing – that they repick their VPs.

By the way, Shannyn, here’s a sample of the Blog of the radio talk show host who didn’t want to interview you on his show from Worcester, MA. He’s an embarrassment also. But he thinks he’s real hot stuff and that’s all that matters, I guess?

    I’M CONFUSED!

As I started my blog today, one prevailing thought continues to cloud my thoughts. What is going to happen today that allows all of us some peace of mind that our country is able to solve it’s near financial meltdown. Now I could write some opnion about what will happen, but to be honest I don’t know; and I don’t like to be in this position. The debate scheduled for tonight is important, but is it more important to work and lead to solve the financial problems facing all of us. Really, think about this; either Obama or Mcain must deal with the ramifications throughout their presidency on what ultimate decision is agreed upon in the Senate and House. So, why would we expect both of these United Staes Senators from not only being there, but leading their parties decisions? How often have we seen Presidents cancel trips and events due to emergencies that pop up? How often have we criticized our Governors in the past for not coming back from vacation when tragedy hits our Commonwealth? Then why should we expect anything different from Obama or Mcain. One of these guys will win the prize; just what that prize looks like will be determined by the current actions being dileberated on by the congress. So, heres my blog. A blog with no answers only more questions. A blog that expresses my sheer frustation at a Country of better than 300 million people, who chose a little more than 500 men and women to protect our nation in Washington and all we get is nothing;they failed. What’s left??? This is todays blog. Write me at jordan@wtag.com

  6. First, I’m sorry it’s belated but good appearance on Olbermann!!

Secondly, I’m astonished that someone (the McSame folks) hasn’t wrapped up SP in a spider cocoon and put her away somewhere in a dark bunker replacing her with an automaton!! OR have they???

I’m sorry but even the WINGNUTS are now saying “she’s out of her league” and should bow out. Kathleen Parker wrote a piece earlier in the week in the National Review to that effect…

What is going on up there ????? (rhetorical question…)

  7. 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11…terrorism; 9/11 9/11 9/11…September 11…Iraq…9/11 9/11 9/11…Iran…9/11…9/11 9/11 9/11…Afghanistan…9/11 9/11 9/11…shore up the economy…9/11 9/11 9/11….Alaskastan!?

  8. i agree w/ smitty: you *NEED* a wider audience. here’s hoping keith olbermann will have you on during the (hopefully still happening) VP debate…

this is so sad, but i honestly didn’t think about this when she said it. i know, i know, i am not paying close enough attention. but, on the other hand, i am so used to the majority of conservatives linking iraq and 9/11 that even *I* forget it’s not true sometimes. thanks for the wake up call; i am sincerely hoping that she makes this same ‘slip’ in front of joe biden, b/c i doubt he will let it pass w/ out highlighting it.

i guess this just goes to show me that the rove-politics really does work: repeat a fallacy enough times and it automatically becomes true. at least, that’s what sarah’s banking on.

    heart you shannyn!!!

  9. My prediction is Mrs. Palin will be dumped; excuse me – she will bow-out, to take care of her family. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens before the debate…

    From the lower48

  10. One strange but possible reason Palin is being so clumsy in her recent press outings: It’s intentional. Maybe the McCain camp is trying to sucker Biden into believing she is really that inept, then he will be knocked back on his heels when she comes out with more skillful arguments.

I’m not suggesting she’ll be brilliant or even close, but if she’s not nearly as bad as she was in the Couric interviews, she might throw Biden for a loop and wow the low-info viewers/voters, who have a short attention span. The Couric video will be history and everyone will be marveling about how she held her own with Biden.

Joe, imagine you’re up against the best debater you’ve ever encountered (as unlikely as that is) and make sure you bring your A game.

  12. There is nothing intentional about the embarrassing ineptness of Sarah Palin. She is what she is. If she possessed critical thinking skills, she would not be a fundamentalist christian. sorry. sad but true.

  13. This McCain-Sarah Palin plan might interest you:

Another McCain gimmick in the offing

McCain camp prays for Palin wedding

The marriage of the vice-presidential candidate’s pregnant teenage daughter could lift a flagging campaign

IN an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one — the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election.

Inside John McCain’s campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby.

“It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”

  14. While it is true that 9/11 was not initiated in Iraq or Afghanistan, there is no evidence that the “hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, and The United Arab Emirates.”

Certainly, the FBI has designated 19 persons originating in the above countries as the “hijackers” of 9/11. But apart from such designation, there exists no evidence that these 19 individuals actually boarded the planes they allegedly hijacked. Even the FBI acknowledges on its website “that attempts to confirm the true identities of these individuals are still under way.” ( http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel01/092701hjpic.htm). I urge our charming “girl from Homer” to be more careful before attributing to innocent people an act of mass murder.

  15. Hi
    Great job .
If we really want to prevent another 9/11 we might want to look at Embry Riddle flight school in Daytona Beach rather than attacking unrelated unagressive countries. -It is the place where the majority of the REAL terrorists (the Saudis) trained to do their worst. It still has enough Saudi students to support several nearby restaurants and while I do not think all those students are terrorists odds are some of them harbor such sentiment. This investigation could be done by the fine folks at the DB cop shop at a savings of several hundred billion dollars, our international reputation, and the constitution, all between donut runs

  16. Excellent post. I would like to post it to my blog, if you don’t mind…

  17. Whats this I’m hearing? Shannyn Moore on Air America! Can it be true? You rock so incredibly hard you make Dan Fledgling look like Tatoo from Fantasy Island.

  18. Elias Davidsson,

I think Shannyn was emphasizing the point that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. I can tell you she had Dr. Steven Jones, Richard Gage and Jason Bermas on her radio show to drive the point home that everything we have been told about 9/11 is a complete fabrication.

  19. Ms. Moore, I suggest you do your homework before you make any further unsubstantiated attacks at Sarah Palin’s involvement in the Excellence in Public Service Series, or continue to spread the netlore surrounding this.

The 527 you refer to is NOT Ted Steven’s 527. He is not on the board of the the 527, nor is he a founder. It was simply named after him, long before any questionable activity came into play.

There are Excellence in Public Service Series Leadership programs for Republican women in many states. All of the state programs are named after living or dead Republican leaders. Please refer to Indiana’s Lugar Series website for the history of the the programs: http://www.lugarseries.org/expansion.php

Sarah Palin’s connection as Director of the Alaskan Series would have no ethical wrongdoing whatsoever as it pertains to Ted Stevens other than the program had his name on it. Period.

    NOTE FROM SHANNYN********
    http://www.lugarseries.org/index.php
Sr Senator Richard Lugar-R is NOT a patriot. He voted for the Patriot Act in every incarnation. He voted for the Bankruptcy Bill in 2005. He voted to authorize use of force in Iraq in 2002. He voted for the Military Commissions Act of 2006-legalizing torture (a war crime) retroactive to 2001 and suspending habeas corpus; the Supreme Court just voted to reinstate that which Senatar Lugar unconstitutionally voted to take away. He voted for every incarnation of the FISA bill of 2007 and 2008. He even voted against stripping out the retroactive immunity clause for law breaking telecom companies that ILLEGALLY wiretapped American Citizens prior to 9/11; in fact, the illegal surveillance began just after W Bush took office in January of 2001. So, in my opinion, Palin’s association with this 527 organization is even worse since it is the brainchild of Senator Richard Lugar-R Indiana . Apparently, Lugar is very good at merging the interests of the corporation with those of the government-and the simple definition for that is FASCISM. Lugar is an avowed fascist based upon his terrible voting record. Thanks for clarifying. This is one more reason to chastise Sarah Palin.
