Alaskans React to the Debate…with Boos and Laughter!

BEAR TOOTH TICKETS – FREE
BOOZE – $5
LAUGHTER AND BOOS – PRICELESS!

I’m working on a post about watching the debate last night at the Bear Tooth. Until then, here is a fantastic post from a
fantastic Alaskan known as frsbdg. Enjoy!

Responses

  1. Brilliant Video! Nothing like watching thinking Alaskans react to Lipstick on a Pig…or in this case…an empty pantsuit…

  2. In light of what’s come out since Palin joined the McCain ticket, should she hopefully (sorry) be sent back to Alaska after the election, will she have trouble getting re-elected in 2 years?

Has this run tarnished her home town brand enough?

  3. Brilliant! Loved it! Alaskans rock! The debate was AWESOME! She is really way, way out of her league! I am even more a fan of Biden now. He was fantastic. Keep up the good work up there and we’ll spread the word down here in the lower 48.

  4. I thiught that Palin/McCain were against PORK? Why then is there 25,000,000 going to Alaska? You would think with 1.5 Billion in PORK this would be a dead issue. Don’t get me wrong I think that as a tax payer we need PORK to support the commons. I guess NASCAR is happy. I can see the RUM issue that one might get me through until Nov. 4th. I am hoping that on the 5th Sarah can find her way back to Alaska to finish up that Troopergate thing, explain why she draws per diem for staying in her own home, how they make 250,00 a year. How she makes hiring and firing desisions and what ever I left out. Until then I am takin my RUM on the Rocks. I am hoping for some bubblie on the 5th of November. Keep up the good work Shannyn. We got your back down here.

    Highest Regards
    Mudslide

  5. *Totally obnoxious* She acted like it was a “Wasilla” beauty pageant…gee shucks, gosh dirn it…and the seeeeerge, I-rak! Oh and this one: ” It is a crisis. It’s a toxic mess, really, on Main Street that’s affecting Wall Street” What???? and this: “Now you said recently that higher taxes or asking for higher taxes or paying higher taxes is patriotic. In the middle class of America which is where Todd and I have been all of our lives, that’s not patriotic…” IRS: SARAH PALIN IS SAYING ITS NOT PATRIOTIC TO PAY TAXES!!!! Well I guess that can be expected from a Alaska Independent party member!!! Well her political career coming to a close soon, McCain’s goons did not succeed in stopping “Troopergate” 🙂 And as far as her being main street, “Wasilla” well, they apparently can’t stand her, if you read the Alaska blogger’s, the only ones who like her are her friends she appointed to state/city offices…..:0 Wink, wink….soon the gov. of Alaska will be impeached! Well gosh dirn it!
I posted this to the SF Chron… 🙂

  6. It sure would have been nice if Sarah Palin had answered the questions she was asked in the debate. She sounded like a broken record. It’s a sad commentary that her expectations were so low that her performance was evaluated by the Republicans as “hit it out of the ball park”. For goodness sake, we’re looking at a potential vice president and she certainly does not qualify.
I’d like to see her answer questions without using the words – joe six pack – hockey mom – maverick – thanks but no thanks. That’s her entire vocabulary.

  7. I’m lovin me some Alaskans right now! There is not enough lipstick in the world to make a chihuahua look like a pitt bull.

  8. Thank you so much for sharing this! You’d think from the McCain-Palin camp that Alaska just LOVED their governor. Thanks for setting the record straight. And I hope you all can survive the rest of her term!

  9. I can’t add much more to the negative descriptions of her performance. Remember Marge Gunderson, the sheriff in Fargo? Yah, you betcha. It was that kind of deal, doncha know. Except Marge was smart.

Palin wasn’t told by the campaign that they were pulling out of Michigan until the NEXT DAY. Obviously, they really value her input on strategy. And now she’s whining that evil Katie Couric “annoyed” her, implying that it caused her to choke during the interview. Now that’s just pathetic.

    http://www.nikonicus.net

  10. They keep trying to lullibye the public, with gas prices, and financial threats. Palin is a continuance of the failed last 8 to twelve years, after Americans played by the rules and trusted our Officials not to get so engrossed in the tax money, they would sell grandma’s Social Security Net and Disabled citizens “safety net” to Wall Street. I’m so glad the few Republicans like Hagel and Warner, voted with Dems to stop it.

Phew! Barack On Grandma’s and Disabled, Obama and Biden have you in their hearts.

  11. Do I see Levi Johnston in the audience?

    LOL

  12. “And now she’s whining that evil Katie Couric “annoyed” her, implying that it caused her to choke during the interview.”

The sign of a true narcissist: blame your failures on someone else.

  13. Thank you for sharing this. Intelligent Texans support all you Intelligent Alaskans, and we’re sorry to have to send Caribou Barbie back home to ya…maybe someone can lock the lid next time she gets into that tanning bed of hers!

  14. I’d like to see AK go blue, like WA, OR and CA. One straight line down the Pacific Coast! Would it be possible to have a tavern competition to see who could register the most democratic voters? You gotta couple of those up there now doncha, taverns I mean? ;-P)

Good luck and sorry about sending Sarah back to ya when this is all over. ;-(

  15. coming from mudflats, that video was awesome. it put a smile on my face. good luck with that rally today and i hope that you guys send sarah and her hockey sticks and her pitbulls and her lipstick packing when she comes back to alaska…

  16. These people know she is so full of shizzzzzz, the polar bears won’t bite her. The winking pageant schtick has gotten old fast. Only “dirty old men” like her. Oh wait isn’t that what McCain is?

  17. Alaskans, we’re proud of you. For a moment there, we thought she represented you. We see now that’s not the case. Thank God!!!!

  18. Hey Sarah !

I Can See The End Of Your Career From My House !

  19. Alaskans Rock!!! Let’s take our country back.

    Obama/Biden 08

  20. Palin tax forms show that “Todd made between $50,000 and $100,000 from British Petroleum’s retirement plan.”

uh. Per year???? how do you do that? I’d really like to play that game. Was this part of a “pay for play” kick-back scam? Seriously, does anyone know how a guy making $60,000 a year?

    wow.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/03/
    palins-tax-return-mystery_n_131791.html

  21. Why is it that most Alaskans seem to love her? I mean per diem for living in your own home? And, I read the Washington Post article that talked about the airfare for spouse/kids. Sept. 3 or so? Anyway… they said another Governor did this too, and it was a big scandal at the time. Yet, no problem now? How is it that it was a huge scandal when Palin exposes another guy for campaigning on govt. time and equipment, yet Palin does the same thing, and nobody cares? What is it about Palin in Alaska?

  22. Does she really say nucyular or is it just a folksy (George Bush style) affectation?

  23. She is a nightmare about to have a train wreck.

  24. This has given me a whole new insight that all Alaskans aren’t in lockstep with Palin, as we’ve been told. WHEW! What a relief! The only thing I can say is, when McCain loses, I’m sorry that you have to take her back. But maybe she’ll go to jail for Troopergate? Hm….

  25. McCain compared Obama to Paris Hilton — I’d rather have Paris Hilton as VP than this B-Movie actress! I keep waiting for the scene where the giant mutant monster bites her in half…
Comparing the Bering Strait Bimbo to Marge Gunderson is an insult to all fictional characters. This joke in a spandex skirt is a menace to the planet. She needs to be sent back to Wasilla (if they’ll take her back.)

  26. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for posting this!!!
    You just made my day.
    🙂

  27. The big question is “Shouldn’t her entire poltical career be over now that she has been exposed?” Also, should the Internal Revenue Service be concerned about her tax returns? Other citizens have been audited for less than under reporting income.

  28. What would be interesting would be a comparison of intelligence between Palin and Pelosi. We don’t hear much about Pelosi from the folks who think they expert at spotting bimbos, do we?

  29. Love it! Made my morning. Thanks for posting this video gold!

  30. @ Angeline – love your nightmare/trainwreck comment.

    @Shannyn – thanks for sharing!

  31. The posting of this video reminds me, in part because I have paid attention to the insightful and comprehensive messages left on blogs by Alaskans who question the veracity of the McCain Palin agenda, that we are all truly united in spite of the “vast swath of landmass” that separates us.
    Thank you from Atlanta!

  32. Never seen so many people who are so ready for one person to crash and burn… to bad, going to be a bunch of disappointed ppl when she actually gets into office, if not this time, she will be around in 4 years too

  33. Palin was rhetorically whipped by Mr. Biden. Here are some obvious reasons why this is the case.

Contained in Palin’s tool-box were numerous logically unsound responses. There were Ad Hominems (i.e., name-calling), arguments of sympathy or pity or carrot-and-stick diatribes, and those of patriotism; femme-fatale facial gestures.

Mr. Biden, on the other hand, chose the rode less traveled. His comments were well thought out and quite relevant to the question being posed. Palin’s were not, ever. And whereas Mr. Biden seemed to actually have a sense of familiarity with the topics chosen by the facilitator, Palin did not. And whereas Palin seemed to want to get to a first name basis from the outset, again Mr. Biden did not and he remained statesman-like and dignified at all times for the entire debate.

And whereas Biden opted not to attack Mr. McCain, but chose instead to dissect the man’s policies, McCain’s running mate appeared not to grasp precisely what such policies entailed.

Watching this debate was painful. It would seem that Palin has a set of problems that are related to Alzheimer’s-like memory loss, coupled with an inability to stay on topic, and with a distinct inability to pronounce the President of Iran’s last name. (Akmadinajad versus Ahmadinajed) Or was that done intentionally so as to allow her to allude to Mr. Barack in a sneaky and clandestined way?

  34. Thank you so much for helping change my opinion of Alaskans.
    You people rock!!!
Please send Palin packin’ after this election, please??

“Scott Fillmer”? Go back and get yer GED, darling.
Then come back and talk with the Thinking People of your state.

  35. Alaska please take back Sarah Palin. The night of the VP debate she told a lie about Sudan. ABC News wrote the truth yesterday.

    Record Refutes Palin’s Sudan Claim
Palin Administration Against Sudan Divestment Before It Was For It, Documents Show
    By JUSTIN ROOD
    October 3, 2008—

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fought to protest atrocities in Sudan by dropping assets tied to the country’s brutal regime from the state’s multi-billion-dollar investment fund, she claimed during Thursday’s vice presidential debate.

Not quite, according to a review of the public record and according to the recollections of a legislator and others who pushed a measure to divest Alaskan holdings in Sudan-linked investments.

“The [Palin] administration killed our bill,” said Alaska state representative Les Gara, D-Anchorage. Gara and state Rep. Bob Lynn, R-Anchorage, co-sponsored a resolution early this year to force the Alaska Permanent Fund a $40 billion investment fund, a portion of whose dividends are distributed annually to state residents to divest millions of dollars in holdings tied to the Sudanese government.

In Thursday’s debate, Palin said she had advocated the state divest from Sudan. “When I and others in the legislature found out that we had some millions of dollars [of Permanent Fund investments] in Sudan, we called for divestment through legislation of those dollars,” Palin said.

But a search of news clips and transcripts from the time do not turn up an instance in which Palin mentioned the Sudanese crisis or concerns about Alaska’s investments tied to the ruling regime. Moreover, Palin’s administration openly opposed the bill, and stated its opposition in a public hearing on the measure.

“The legislation is well-intended, and the desire to make a difference is noble, but mixing moral and political agendas at the expense of our citizens’ financial security is not a good combination,” testified Brian Andrews, Palin’s deputy revenue commissioner, before a hearing on the Gara-Lynn Sudan divestment bill in February. Minutes from the meeting are posted online by the legislature.

Gara says the lack of support from Palin’s administration helped kill the measure.

“I walked out of that hearing livid,” Gara recalled of the February meeting. Because of the Palin administration’s opposition to the bill, “We could not get a vote in that committee,” he explained. At no point did Palin come out in support of the effort, Gara said.

The bill’s Republican co-sponsor remembers things differently. “I know she was very strongly behind this,” said Rep. Lynn. Asked why, if Palin supported the bill, one of her administration’s officials would speak against it, Lynn demurred. “We don’t all work in lockstep here,” he said. “People have different opinions,” he added.

Lynn said he and Palin agreed to re-introduce the bill next January, and push to pass it then. He declined to consider whether stronger support from Palin would have helped the bill survive this winter. “I’m not going to do this what if, what if, what if,” he said. “These are hypotheticals.”

Gara said that after it was clear the bill had stalled, he and others pressed the administration directly on Sudan divestment.

“We were outraged,” Gara recounted. “We went to the Commissioner of Revenue and said, ‘What the hell are you guys doing? This is genocide. We’re going to keep pushing this until we divest.”

Two months later, at the end of the legislative session, the administration softened its position. Appearing before a Senate committee which was considering a companion measure to Gara’s bill, Palin’s Revenue commissioner, Patrick Galvin, stated the administration supported such a measure, though it hoped to amend the bill to allow for investments held indirectly, for example in index funds.

“At the last minute they showed up” and supported the divestment effort, Gara said. But by then the legislative session was almost over, and there wasn’t enough time to get it passed.

The Alaska Permanent Fund currently holds $22 million in Sudan-linked investments, according to the non-profit Sudan Divestment Task Force. Divestment advocates say the fund does not need an act of the state legislature to divest itself of those holdings.

The McCain-Palin campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has been a strong supporter of Sudan divestment efforts, and has urged Americans to liquidate their holdings in companies who do business there. He was criticized for that position when it was revealed in May his wife Cindy held $2 million in investment funds owning shares of Sudan-linked companies. She sold those holdings following a reporter’s inquiries.

  36. I am from Ketchikan Alaska, and while we can’t see Washington D.C. from our town, we do know what happens when corruption takes over the White House. I’m proud to have Palin represent our state, and hope McCain and she get elected. It will be nice to have a real person in office, as opposed to someone who only cares about what “sounds good” in media. Many of the people in Ketchikan agree.

    Go Palin!

  37. You Obama supporters are not only stupid and uninformed, you are downright mean and nasty, just like your heroe. Bush has been a disaster, no question. You fools think that this sniveling corrupt nasty junior Senator is running against Bush. He isn’t. He is a liar and un-American and corrupt … and you know it. Have a great day.

  38. Mrs Moore, Intelligent people in the lower 48 thank you for the work you do. All we hear about is how Alaskan’s love the Gov. It is refreshing to find otherwise. Best Regards,

  39. —Great video! Glad to watch this, and to learn of the various views of the people in Alaska!

  40. Will Palin/McCain succeed in turning Alaska Blue? Obama’s ‘community organizers’ on the ground here in Florida are relentless in ridding this state of the ‘red’ taint.

As a humanitarian, I appreciate your drive to discover and reveal events that touch Alaskan lives. As a truth seeker and voter, I appreciate your outreach and want you to know you have touch my life.

  41. from:CindyKay –

“I Can See The End Of Your Career From My House” !

Perfect!!! I hope you don’t mind if I use that sometime!

    from:ScottFillmer –

“Never seen so many people who are so ready for one person to crash and burn… to bad, going to be a bunch of disappointed ppl when she actually gets into office, if not this time, she will be around in 4 years too”

I couldn’t disagree with you more. After she helps McDone loss this election her political career is toast! Maybe she can get a job reading talking points on Faux News.

Thanks Shannyn for sharing this video. I love it!
I wish I could have watched the debate with you guys. Sure looks like it was a fun night.

    Peace

  42. Thanks Alaskans we are with you here in California. I can’t wait until she is booted back to you and I hope you send her back to the drawing board. She is scary!!!

  43. The McCain campaign has done everything possible to keep Sarah Palin under wraps. But as time goes by everyone can see that this particular emporer has no clothes. She is not smart, she is not principled, she is not honest, and she is not fit to govern.

  44. The people of Alaska are awesome ! I always felt like Palin was a farce all along , now I know it for sure. I don’t think she’ll have a chance of getting elected to dog catcher once she helps McCain lose. I’ve never seen a more ignorant excuse for an American. What are politics coming too when they choose someone like this ? It only proves America needs to put more into our education system.

  45. That was bizarre with all the winking and flirting by Palin. She’s cute, but flirting and “talking direct to the American people” alone don’t make her qualified. Luckily people are catching on to that. She is the downfall of McCain

  46. what really kills me is that if McCain was dead set on having a chick on the ticket, there are several HIGHLY qualified, smart and savvy women in the Republican party who would have been a better choice.

    Olympia Snow?

    Katherine Harris?

I’m not a Republican by any stretch of the imagination, but either of these two women would have been a FAR better choice than Palin.

They’re at least smart and qualified to be Veep.

Maybe not so much Harris, but Snowe is sure as hell qualified.

  47. Sorry.. that name is spelled “Snowe”.

    I’ve had too much wine.

  48. Whoa! Thanks for posting this video. Love it!

  49. Poor Americans, what did you guys do to deserve this?
You know what it reminds me of; communist Russia, where the leaders were making their speeches and everyone was laughing at them. Only difference was that the Russians sniggered at home for fear of being taken to a gulag, you guys get together and laugh your asses off.

May God save you – cause if he does not save you guys first, he probably won’t get around to saving us.

  50. Love it….she is scary….almost as scary as the brainwashed followers. She is so plastic.

  51. Its obvious that one politician does now always represent the will and values of their constituents. Just like Bush does not represent everyone in America, Palin does not represent everyone in Alaska.

  52. That says so much more about her than any news coverage can.

  53. You forget that she was elected Governor, pal.
It is obvious that the vast majority of Alaskians …? (How do you call yourselves? Alaskanians? Alaskys? Polarskys? He he he …) voted for Sarah Palin.

The whole state is going to vote Republican. So I’ll be president until 2016 and afterwards Sarah.
    Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiha!

  54. Probably the most interesting video I’ve seen of the debate. Great to hear Alaskans expressing their views instead of having them filtered through Palin.

  55. Watched the video. Oh, no way it’s edited to reflect in favor of Biden, right?

  56. I’m a Canadian and have to apologize to my American cousins for allowing Palin to make it down to the lower states. She must have flew around Canada. Now it’s up to you good people to send that frigid chick packing.
However, if she does manage to SOMEHOW make it into the VP seat, Canada is a big country and all you good people are welcome. Just don’t bring her with you!
    Peace and good luck!

  57. Hi Shannyn –
I have to tell you, you are doing a great thing here – I hate it that Sarah Palin is making Alaska a joke. I am originally from Los Angeles, second generation, and just recently moved to the East Coast. In Los Angeles, we got a huge amount of flak for Govorner Schwarzenegger – we were the butt of every joke on Late Night. Luckily for us, Schwarzenegger has a brain, and he is married to a Kennedy. And he has done some very good things in California, as best as he can considering the housing issue.

I would rather have people make fun of the way my former Governor pronounces California than have this “oh golly oh jeez aren’t the bangs in my eyes cute? And let me keep slandering Obama while blowing kisses and signing hats and winky winking like a little prom queen” – Just want you to know, we here on the East Coast are pulling for Alaska to get her back, and then get rid of her.

    Keep at it!

Come by and read my new name for her at:

    http://ninacorvo.wordpress.com

and if you would like to read her closing statements concerning Ronald Reagan and where she quoted him from, go to:

    http://itwasjustalife.wordpress.com

Keep up the good fight – I am passing your blog around to all of my friends on both coasts – we are behind you 100%

    Best,
    Kelly Mahan Jaramillo

  58. This is the beauty of the interenet. It’s a unique glimpse into responses of average Alaskans to the VP choice. Thanks for the post.

  59. To rickiewilson: as a matter of fact, the video is a accurate representation of the audience reaction to the debate. Download a copy of the transcript and read along. I took specific steps to include dialogue in the audience scenes to verify that the reactions were authentic. There have been several other accounts posted from people who were there, and they all verify the video. Biden got the cheers and applause, Palin got the jeers and laughter. Deal with it.

BTW, it never ceases to amaze me how Republicans will accuse everyone of doing things like falsely editing video, when that is the exact sort of thing that they themselves do all the time. I’m thinking about how they Photoshopped a picture of Bush in front of the troops to make the crowd look bigger.

  60. I was there. frsbdg’s video is an authentic representation of the Alaskan’s reaction to the Biden Palin debate.

Rickiewilson: Realize, Palin is dropping like a rock in the polls. Palin gave McCain the keys to the state and he is running over good bipartisan politicians who were doing what the governor wanted; an investigation! Now we have our AG telling witnesses to ignore subpoenas. Most Alaskans are learning a lot of these recent negative revelations just as the rest of the world is. The media here didn’t not ask her tough questions, let alone follow up questions. If Palin is returned to Alaska, there is a chance of impeachment or recall!

  61. lol..rick wilson…did you bother to watch the debate. My goodness…a whole lot of editing , like perhaps cutting palin right out, would have had to be done to do what you suggest. Palin..just isnt fixable.

  62. Awww repubs….I feel so bad for you. That koolaid really does a number on you doesnt it. Stop drinking it…take a couple of aspirins…read a book…and you will feel better soon.

  63. Cindy Kay:

Best comment so far! Thanks! I laughed out loud(by myself – God knows what my neighbours will think of me!), for quite some time… Brilliant!
